PTA

Parents and Teachers Association

Our PTA is a group of keen volunteers made up of parents, carers and teachers who work together to raise funds for additional resources for our school.

The PTA usually meets once every half term and runs school discos, organises gift sales for Christmas, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, as well as family events such as bingo nights and our annual summer camp-out, where families enjoy an afternoon and evening together as a school community and then camp out on the school field after chatting around the BBQ and camp fire. We also provide refreshments at most school events and much more.

In 2019, the PTA held its largest fundraising event to date by inviting a big-top circus into the school field along with a funfair and local food and drinks vendors. It was a sell-out event, selling over 600 tickets and raising over £3,000 for the school!

The PTA has funded many things around the school including additional learning resources for Maths and English, books for the new school library and extra Chrome books for ICT curriculum delivery. We also support extra-curricular activities for the children such as transport to the panto and for school trips, costumes for the school play and treats for the children for both Christmas and Easter. At the end of the school year, the PTA also support the leaving celebrations for the out-going Year 6 students.

A few years ago, the parents of the school voted for a legacy project which would improve the school both for the current children and those who will attend in the future.  This project was to build a shelter within our wonderful forest school area so that children can comfortably continue their learning in the woodlands whatever the weather.  This has been built and the children will hopefully continue to use this in years to come.

The PTA is a great way to get more involved with the school and become part of the Long Whatton team.  New members are always welcome and the PTA can be contacted through the school office, by chatting to one of the team or by email at ptalongwhatton@outlook.com
